THE Duke of York Prince Andrew will arrive in Port Moresby this Thursday to officially open the Pacific Games on Saturday, July 4, at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The Prince’s plane is due to touch down at Jackson International Airport just after 4pm and will be officially received by Speaker Theodore Zurenuoc, who is acting governor-general. The Government House says that Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio will not be in PNG when Prince Andrew arrives as he will leave this weekend for Tonga to attend the coronation celebration of King Tupou VI of Tonga on Monday and Tuesday next week. This will be the second time Prince Andrew will be in PNG to officially open yet another South Pacific Game, the first time he did the honours was in September 1991 when he kicked off the official opening of the Games. Prince Andrew will also celebrate Mass at St Martin’s Anglican Church, Boroko. It will be a 45 minute mass. The officials advised that the program will not be disclosed as yet but officially released next Tuesday. The Prince will return to the United Kingdom on July 6.
