Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his government have been urged to provide to the country concrete evidence that the country was not running on red. Commentators and various members of the general public have taken to the social media and other mediums to express disgust at the manner the government was handling the dissemination of information pertaining to the country’s economy. Many are questioning that the continuous assurance from the Prime Minister that the economy was stable is a lie and deception when the economic indicators showed the other way. Continuous reports in the media have pointed out that there are countless budgetary cuts to various programs in the country. Recently shares in major government investee companies have dropped and essential services like health and education have seen massive cuts to its programs for this year. The Office of Higher Education in a recent report states that it was yet to receive its K40 million for 2016 academic year with the government not providing any concrete timeframe for the payment or reasons for the delay. Such occurrences as taken the public to question the Prime Minister, if he and his Finance Minister James Marape and Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch have been lying all along to the people of the country that the economy was stable – when in actual fact, it was facing a severe cash shortfall in its operating accounts.
