Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill has thanked Pacific Island leaders for supporting Papua New Guinea candidate Dame Meg Taylor to get the top post of general secretary of the Pacific Island Forum secretariat. Dame Taylor won the post at the recently concluded 45th Pacific Island Forum meeting in Palau.
"We would like to thank all the Pacific Island countries and their leaders for the confidence and support they extended to PNG on its nomination of Dame Meg Taylor to the position of Pacific Island secretary general," the Prime Minister said. "This is the first time a woman leader of our country will head an international organisation and that is the confidence and trust they have extended to Papua New Guinea. "I know that Pacific Island Forum Secretariat will be now for the first time headed by three women and I think this will be a historic moment for the region, so we thank the Pacific Island nations in giving us overwhelming support. That also shows the confidence they have in PNG as a country." Related News Comments are closed.
