Prime Minister Peter O'Neil quietly flew into Kavieng this afternoon, and held a three-hour closed door meeting with leader of the People's Progress Party and State Enterprises and Investments Minister, Ben Micah. New Ireland Governor, Sir Julius Chan, was reportedly unhappy about the un-announced visit and did not turn up to welcome Mr. O'Neil and his delegation. Sir Julius, however, later joined the Prime Minister in a closed-door meeting at Minister Micah's residence at Kopkop. Sir Julius was not to keen on meetings with the Prime Minister as the national government's still has outstanding commitments to the government and people of New Ireland, especially the granting of the provinces autonomy status which the National Government promised to fast tract during the national governor's conference in the province in 2014, but has fail to do so. Sir Julius was busy attending to a PEC meeting before joining the Prime Minister and Minister Ben Micah for the meeting at 4pm this afternoon. The PM's visit to the province lasted 3 hours.
