Komo-Magarima MP Francis Potape has been elected unanimously to serve as the acting governor for Hela Province after his election by members of the Provincial assembly in Tari. He was elected by 9 out of the 13 assembly members but in the absence of assembly members James Marape, Philip Undialu and 2 other presidents. An elated governor Potape said his priority was to restore unity among leaders and the people in the province. "Also on my priority list is to restore peace and good order amid the lawlesslessness in the province as tribal fighting continues to plague the communities." said Potape. But MP Philip Undialu who was not present at the assembly meeting said the meeting was illegal and in breach of the leadership code and against the decision of the court because he was not aware of the assembly meeting that was convened. "As per the recent court orders, a time, date and venue of the meeting was to be announced by the Assembly Clerk. The clerk is in Port Moresby. Who authorized that meeting? There is no need to rush as this would cause further chaos," said the frustrated Koroba Lake Kopiago MP. But Potape when contacted for his comments said his election was proper and Mr. Undialu was informed of the meeting but refused to attend. He called for calm and challenged all leaders in the province to work together with him in unity to progress Hela for the common good of all.
