A multi-million kina wharf constructed outside Port Moresby, may be forced to be forfeited, after a court found it to be built on illegal land.
The Wharf is owned by Avenell Engineering Services, and is located at Roku, next to the Napanapa Oil Refinery. The Wharf was built at a cost of 4 million U-S Dollars, funded by the International Finance Corporation. Roku landowners in a Statement blamed I-F-C for failing its duty to carry out due diligence to ensure land acquired by A-E-S was legally done, and customary landowners were duly consulted. They claimed majority of the landowners didn't benefit from the land as its registered illegally with the lands department under the Special Agriculture Business Lease. Inogo Gabe, who hade benefited from the illegal land deals registered it as a State land, however, the Central Provincial Land court found the land on potion 2-4-6-7-C belongs to the Roku People.
