KANDEP MP and Leader of THE Party Don Polye has been allocated seat number 103 in the government middle benches by the Speaker.
"Now, justice is served against a corrupt decision," a relieved Mr Polye told the Post-Courier. "This decision will protect parliamentary democracy. Papua New Guinea is proud of the Speakers decision," a very relieved Mr Polye said when contacted last night. Parliament Speaker Theo Zurenuoc made the seat allocation after so much anxiety regarding the leader of THE Party who was forced by the ruling People’s National Congress to be accommodated in the Opposition ranks. Mr Zurenuoc, when making the announcement, pointed out under Standing Order 28, relating to the seats in Parliament of which the Speaker allocated the seat. Mr Polye ,who had boycotted parliament session for the last four days, has also written to the Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Alphonse Gelu, expressing his concerns about the abuse of power by the PNC Party under Prime Minister O’Neill. "I write to seek your understanding that all political parties in the current PNC led government are equal partners restricted by the Alotau Accord. The accord provides the framework for the existence of the current O’Neill-Dion government," Mr Polye wrote. He said the ruling party has an obligation and duty to respect the individual parties as the parties assisted PNC to form the government. He confirmed last night that he will now attend the session.
