Papua New Guineans who continue to fight for honesty and good governance does not need to be threatened for doing what is right. Opposition leader Don Polye made these remarks in response to PM Peter O’Neill seeking legal action against Mr Polye for making serious allegations against the members of the National Executive Council. This is in regards to the recommended preference by NEC to appoint L & A Construction to carry out work on the new National and Supreme Court Complex, whom Polye says is a personal associate of the Prime Minister. “I did not personalise or did not name any of the members of the NEC. My letter to the Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia was a general and genuine letter raising the issue of ethical implications and addressing the issue of transparency and good governance,” says Mr Polye Following Mr Polye’s letter to the Chief Justice, Sir Salamo wrote to Attorney General Ano Pala to withdraw his previous letter to Attorney General dated 21st January, 2016 in which his recommended contractor of preference was L & A Construction. “We all know that L & A Construction has a close or personal association with the Prime Minister and the courage shown by the Chief Justice to retract his previous recommendations noting default in this arrangement is brave. And I thank the Chief Justice for standing up to what is wrong,” says Mr Polye. The Opposition Leader is now calling on the Prime Minister to put aside his intentions of taking legal action and work with him to promote transparency and good governance for the betterment of PNG.
