A senior police officer is urging the victims of a police-bashing incident in Mount Hagen to file a complaint with the Internal Affairs Section immediately so that action can be taken against the policemen.
Director of Police Media Unit and acting Executive Officer to the Commissioner, Chief Superintendent Dominic Kakas made this call following reports in the media on Monday. Chief Superintendent Kakas said reports of police abuses across the nation is of major concern to the RPNGC management. He said the police top management under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Toami Kulunga has a “zero tolerance level” on unprofessional, unethical, corrupt and abusive policemen and will act swiftly and firmly when such complaints are laid. Chief Superintendent said the disciplinary system and processes within the Constabulary were quite transparent and effective and therefore appropriate corrective measures would be taken if a member of the force is found to have abused his or her constitutional powers. “I therefore encourage the three victims to file their complaint with the Internal Affairs section at Mount Hagen Police station to allow formal investigations to begin,” Chief Superintendent Kakas said.
