POLICE in the National Capital District will not tolerate drinking parties by students celebrating their end of the year national examinations. The strong warning was issued yesterday by NCD Police Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa (pictured right).Grade 10 students have sat for their national examinations and are due to complete them this week. The Grade 12s are to start next week followed by Grade 8s. "I would like to warn students who wish to have after-exam parties to be wary of the laws as police will not tolerate any binge drinking and parties that involve alcohol," Mr Bawa stated.
"Such parties, from past experiences, often turn nasty and lead to unnecessary incidents such as fights and some either get injured, sexually harassed, raped or even die and we do not want such incidents to be repeated." He said police would be on the lookout for such activities to ensure those breaking the law would be dealt with accordingly. He called on students to behave themselves after their exams and not be involved in unnecessary after-exam celebrations that would involve illicit alcohol such as home-brew and other drinks that are dangerous for their health and wellbeing. Supt Bawa also called on parents whose children may be sitting for exams to discipline their children and ensure they celebrate with non-alcoholic drinks. "Students, especially those in primary and secondary schools, should know that they have a long way to go and should set their priorities right and focus on their studies to achieve their goals and become better men and women in the future," he said. "Such unnecessary partying and drinking after examinations often lead to unpredictable incidents. It was only safe that the students refrain from engaging in such peer activities and celebrate with their families indoors." Related Post
