A police officer was attacked and killed in Mt Hagen on Saturday night when he confronted the driver of a vehicle.
Senior Constable Allan Ani died at Warakum at the hands of the vehicle occupants believed to be from the Jika Milakimb tribe outside the city. Mt Hagen policemen showed their anger yesterday, felling paperbark and palm trees lining Hagen Drive, near the police station. Garbage bins were emptied on the main streets and drums were used to block roads. Five men and a woman have been arrested in relation to Senior Const Ani’s death while police hunt for several others including two women in an operation mounted at Relgaimp and Koglamp villages. Const Ani from West Sepik Province is attached to the police dog unit and was on his way home when a PMV crashed into his vehicle. Chief Superintendent Lakari said the policeman gave chase, stopped the vehicle and told the driver to report the matter to police and an argument erupted. He said passengers jumped off, attacked and killed the constable then fled in the vehicle. Comments are closed.
