The National Court has heavily fined two daily newspapers in PNG for disobeying court orders.
The National and Post Courier, were each fined K20 000 and K50 000 , respectively, for publishing pictures of people inside the Manus Island Detention Centre, in February. The two newspapers were warned through a court order not to cover stories regarding the Manus Island Detention Center. However, the two newspapers disobeyed the court order and went ahead and published news on the detention center. Justice David Cannings, handed down the ruling this afternoon and penalized the newspapers with hefty fines. Comments are closed.
