The National Government through its Works and Implementation Department, has begun cracking down on contractors and landowners, who collude with engineers and supervisors of major road works in the country to milk the state by submitting unnecessary claims, company variations and land compensation.
Minster Francis Awesa with out further details of the contractors and officers involved said the department is aware of the ill practices that are currently going on. Awesa said, first it used to be unnecessary land compensation claims, but these days there are new trend of claims, and that is company variation. He adds, this is a new industry created by big construction companies who colluded with Works engineers and supervisors by submitting bogus claims which are not initially on the their contracts agreements. The minister said millions have already being paid out which can be used to better more roads infrastructure. Meantime, Works department will set up hot line at the end of this month for public to report any corrupt practices. NBC
