The World Health Organization is warning Papua New Guineans to be cautious about the deadly Ebola virus, which has killed nearly 1,000 people in West Africa.
The warning comes as the National Health Department, with support from W-H-O, closely monitors the situation in West Africa. P-N-G is developing its laboratory to detect any possible cases. Ebola is a severe acute sudden virus, which may include fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat and leads to vomiting, diarrhoea, rash impaired kidney, and in some cases, leads to both internal and external bleeding. WHO said, it's similar to various common infectious diseases found in P-N-G such as malaria, typhoid fever, hepatitis and dengue fever. It said, Ebola does not naturally occur in P-N-G, but if someone has traveled to West Africa in the past three weeks, and developed Ebola like symptoms, they must immediately go see a doctor.
