The Papua New Guinea Trade Union Congress is appealing to all parties involved in the issue surrounding the warrants of arrest for the Prime Minister and his two senior ministers, to follow due processes.
General Secretary, John Paska, says this is a very serious matter, and if not handled carefully, this will affect the country's economy and social sector: "If assuming these claims are wrong and then they are very serious, and I think we should be very, very careful about where we stand in terms of some of the claims that we make. Because we are on the verge of some breaking through to achieving some major goals in the country by virtue of the development of the LNG Gas Project and a lot of other things depend on the success of this particular project. And if this fails as a result of politically instability, I think it can give rise to a whole lot of other concerns that maybe derailed and may affect the livelihood of ordinary Papua New Guineans". Transparency International P-N-G has also called on the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader, and all citizens to respect the independence of the country's police and courts. T-I-P-N-G said, concerned parties must resolve this matter through the court system as a matter of urgency, as such unresolved situations can result in anarchy and complete lawlessness.
