All birth certificates held by individuals will be made invalid in the process of getting new personal data to create National ID (NID) Cards.
This was announced today at the PNG National Identification Project Workshop in Port Moresby by the Civil and Identity Registrar, Mr. Dickson Kiragi. New application forms will be issued coinciding with the data collection exercise starting this month to get relevant information from people across PNG for the NID project. “The new birth certificates will contain security features along with ID photos to avoid duplication to protecti individual information privacy,” Kiragi said. A notice will be put out for the public to hand in their current birth certificates to the Civil Registry Office to make way for the new ones.
