The third APEC meeting of ministers responsible for forestry is set to be held in Papua New Guinea this week.
Nineteen countries from the 21 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) member economies have already confirmed their participation in the meeting with some delegates arriving yesterday and others expected to travel in today. The countries are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Peru, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam. The confirmed delegates include three ministers and senior officials. The ministers are the vice-minister for the state forest administration of China Liu Dongsheng, Malaysia’s deputy minister of natural resources and environment Datuk Haji Hamim Samuri and the Chinese Taipei minister of the council of agriculture Dr Bao Ji Chen. The three-day meeting will be conducted at the Gateway Hotel and will be chaired by Forest and Conservation Minister Douglas Tomuriesa starting tomorrow. "This is the first of its kind of a series of meetings that will be held in Papua New Guinea," he said.
