The Papua New Guinea Teachers Association is threatening a nationwide strike, if the National Government fails to seriously address discrepancies in teachers salaries.
P-N-G-T-A General-Secretary, Ugwalubu Mowana, says the government must stick by its commitment of paying teachings according to the Teachers Salary Fixation Agreement that it signed with the union. Mr. Mowana said, if the Teaching Service Commission and Education Department fail to correct the salary differences, then this shows their lack of seriousness towards honoring this agreement. He states, the Teachers Union has submitted a letter to the Office of the Industrial Registrar, reporting the breach of Agreement and asking for a secret ballot for industrial action. Mr. Mowana adds, the Union executive is expected to meet soon, to endorse the member's industrial intention. Comments are closed.
