The University of Papua New Guinea today received K1 million funding from the Office of the Higher Education Science and Technology. Present to hand over the cheque was newly sworn in minister for HEST Francis Marus witness by the Vice chancellor Albert Mallam assisted by the two Pro – Vice Chancellors, the Registrar and the Bursar. Upon officiating the cheque Minister Maru said the K1 million will go towards supporting the university in terms of getting back on its feet and enabling repairs to some of the damages caused to the infrastructures during the unrest of the boycott, and also preparing both school emotionally and psychology through the reconciliation process that will take place before the schools kicks off on the 5th of September. He added that the O’Neill/Dion Government was committed in assisting the state universities and have allocated K63 million to respective universities towards upgrading and implement new infrastructures.
