PNG Power workers throughout the country are in a state of panic after learning that the Public Enterprise Minster suspending the Board in the move to privatise the state entity. According to the PNG Energy Workers Union President, Mr. Eddie Gisa, most power workers throughout the country were caught off guard and demanded that they be consulted first about such moves. “At this moment everyone is lost and we are asking how will things go on now for the company and the workers,” Gisa said. The concern of all the power workers is the securing of their jobs and their entitlements in light of privatisation. The move by Minister Ben Micah to change the set up of the State owned Enterprise now puts them in limbo as to what’s going to happen to them. The Union might hold an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss and get a clarification on the matter. Meantime, PNG Power says the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. John Tangit will not be making any comments regarding the matter at this time because of the current State of Emergency (SoE) exercise still in progress. PNG Power said the SoE will end in about two weeks time.
