The new PNG Power Board of Directors, has unanimously agreed to uphold the suspension of CEO John Tangit following its first meeting last Friday.
It said evidence presented to it was overwhelming, and that it will allow investigations to proceed into the misappropriation allegations. Mr. Tangit was served his formal charges last week, and is expected to assist in the investigations. Once the Terms of Reference for the investigations are finalized and signed, the Board will appoint an independent auditor to carry out the investigations. The first allegation against Tangit, relates to two lots of payments totaling over 3-million Kina, made to private companies for two different work. The two major allegations that were raised against Mr Tangit are, first allegation for two lots of payments made to private company for two different works worth K1.73 million and K1.27 million, kina totaling up to K3 million. Its alleges, these two payments were made but there was no scope of work and also no work carried out. Second allegation is regarding another payment of K1.3 million to a company for the purchase of vehicles for the PPL vehicle fleet which was against the recommendations of the Board. The board heard, there are many more other minor allegations which the investigation will also look into. An independent auditor will be given 10 working days to complete the investigations and furnish a report with recommendations to the Board. Comments are closed.
