Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga said, the police force will be transformed into a people's department within the next ten to fifteen years.
Commissioner Kulunga made the remark in Mendi Southern Highlands last Friday, where the Police Modernization program was launched. Mr. Kulunga also presented six new vehicles for police in the province. Supporting the move, Governor William Powi also pledged more than 200-thousand Kina for police firearms. Governor Powi is also paying for seventy new police officers for the province, through a 1-million Kina funding to the Police Department, for their training at the Bomana Police College.
