One student from Enga is reported to have died while 15 other students from the University of Papua New Guinea are in at the Port Moresby General Hospital, nursing injuries following an incident between Police and Students early this morning outside the main campus. “Seven students have been shot with 6 in ICU and one dead,” an anxious President of the Wabag Student Association told PNGFM right after the confrontation. Reports coming in indicate that there is a huge crowd outside the Port Moresby General Hospital, awaiting news of those who were injured during this morning confrontation between Police and students, just when students were trying to commence a peaceful march to the Parliament House. Police have indicated earlier that the march would be illegal as it did not get the necessary approval needed to ensure safety was guaranteed. NCD Police Boss, Ben TURI, told media that police was on full force on campus to ensure students did not come out to the streets or the public to enter the campus. Reasons and the justification of shots fired at the students are still to be established. The roads along Waigani, Gerehu and surrounding areas have closed down, with motorists now utilizing the back road through Baruni. PNGFM/PNGfacts
