Uncertainty reigns over the re-appointment of Chief Ombudsman, Rigo Lua as his contract expires at midnight tonight. (Wednesday, 13th May, 2015)
A concerned Lua wants the Ombudsman Appointment Committee to come out clear, as he is seeking reappointment. He said, the Committee, which includes the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader and Chief Justice, has yet to meet. In a media conference this afternoon Mr. Lua said, he's been kept in the dark and fears, the Constitutional office may be dragged to its feet. "On the 21st of January this year, I gave the Ombudsman Commission Appointment Committee four months advance notice of my intention seeking reappointment. This was followed by two additional letters dated the 9th of February, and 25th of March respectively. For reasons only known to the committee, no meeting occur, until today the in which my appointment lapses." Mr. Lua was appointed in 2013 and his contract expires today as he turns 55. Under his watch, many M-P's have been referred to face the Leadership Tribunal. Comments are closed.
