Asylum seekers, aid, trade, defence and police co-operation will be on the agenda during official talks between ministers from Papua New Guinea and Australia. Six PNG ministers are expected to meet Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and seven of her ministerial colleagues at a forum in Canberra on Thursday morning. PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill is also in town and will address the National Press Club. He will also have separate bilateral talks with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. It's likely PNG government budget woes will come up during discussions. PNG is expected to again ask Canberra for visas to be given to their citizens on arrival in Australia. It also wants changes to the role played by Australian police based in Port Moresby and Lae, who have advisory positions and can't go out on the beat. Immigration Minister Peter Dutton will participate in the ministerial forum and will seek an update on PNG's refugee resettlement process and detention centre arrangements on Manus Island. AAP
