THE government will be supporting the business community on technology to achieve better performance, Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry Richard Maru said.
He said this during the launching of online lodgment project by the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) last Friday. With the project launching, the people could register their businesses online instead of standing in queues to register. People can log on to www.ipa.gov.pg to register their businesses. “Government is confident that developments within the ICT (information and communication technology) sector will continue to help grow the interest and through appropriate marketing strategies of the services,” Maru said. “We are part of the global economy and the landscape will begin to demand it. I am more than certain that with IPA going online, clients will start demanding it from tax, customs, migration, public utilities managing bills, and other services providers. “All these agencies must now stand up and take note that we can never rest on our laurels anymore because the world is going to pass us by,” Maru said. IPA managing director Ivan Pomaleu said IPA’s aim for the introduction of online lodgment project was to ensure that registration processes were simplified. “It was our attempt to try and make it easier for our clients to lodge documents both new registrations as well as file statutory documents,” Pomaleu said. He said the introduction of online registry project would also save IPA some costs. “We have made the savings of K3, 649,225 annually, which comprises K3, 610,465 to those who want searches done and K38,760 for IPA. “The new search system will also free up equivalent of almost four full-time employees to do other work,” Pomaleu said. The lodgment project was funded by the government, supported by International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the New Zealand government. It was developed by contractor Foster Moore IT of Auckland, New Zealand. Comments are closed.
