SINGAPORE has been urged to conclude a formal development cooperation agreement with Papua New Guinea as an umbrella framework arrangement to cover all aspects of the countries’ cooperation.
PNG’s High Commissioner to Singapore Anton Wagambie made the comment when presenting his credentials. This will include trade, investment, technical assistance and forestry, exchange of information on science and technology, agriculture, fisheries, liquefied natural gas and all exchange of high level visits. He noted that PNG’s desire to seek full membership in this premier organisation would be a significant boost in the country’s foreign policy posture. There he said it would be required a lot of effort, resources and commitment from the government to fully realise this initiative. He told Singapore president Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam about the country’s keen desire to seek full membership in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the future. He said PNG admired Singapore’s major achievements and growth in the areas of trade, finance, human resource development and capacity building. “This also includes high technology industries as it has a comparative advantage in these vital areas of her rapid economic growth,” he said. “To have access to her pool of expertise and knowledge as PNG strives with her own development efforts.” PNG Facts / The national Comments are closed.
