Three Papua New Guinea immigration officials in Manus will appear in court over the assault an Iranian refugee on Monday night. They were arrested and charged on Friday by Police. They were released on 100 Kina each, and will appear at the Lorengau District Court on a later date. Twelve were taken in for questioning after lunch, before the three were identified and charged. Workers from the hotel and the victim Moshen Sakravi identified the three officials, who were allegedly drunk when they beat up Sakravi for breaching the 6am to 6 pm curfew imposed on the refugees. The processed refugees are walking around Lorengau town freely and accessing goods and services but must go back to the transit centre before 6pm. They are being given K100 weekly to sustain themselves. The processed refugees numbering about 140 are currently at the East Lorengau transit center after they were found to be genuine asylum seekers. They were moved over from the Lombrum camp and are awaiting their papers to be sorted out before they are put to other provinces in PNG to settle.
