Government has been urged to make alluvial mining export exclusively for nationally owned companies, business houses and land owners only and not foreign companies.
Hela Governor Anderson Agiru raised this concern during grievance debate last Friday that foreign companies are also going in to compete with the locals in doing alluvial mining , which must be stopped. Agiru questioned that why would foreign companies enjoy the benefit of exporting all the raw materials including alluvial mining. He has called on the mining minister Byron Chan to make changes to mining polices where it can cater for issue. Meantime, mining minister Byron Chan in his ministerial statement told parliament his ministry his currently working on mining policy and regulation review exercise which will look into such things as alluvial mining industry.
