The National Government has begun discussions with relevant stakeholders, on its move to partially privatize State-owned Entities.
Minister responsible, Ben Micah, met with the Managements, Boards and Unions of P-N-G Power and Air Niugini, to reaffirm Government's commitment. Both entities are among the first in a series of privatizations, being considered for partial sale. The meeting was well represented by Chairmen, Chief Executive Officers and Union representatives of both PNG Power and Air Niugini. Minister Ben Micah bluntly told the executives of both entities that the government is serious and is in the process to formalise its intention. Micah said its about time parts of PNG Power and Air Niugini are sold to private hands as government can not afford to continue inject capital year in year out into those entities. The minister, on be half of Prime Minister Peter ONeill has assured both entities that all stakeholders, including the workers interests and concerns will be considered and taken on board. The executives especially the unions who were present did not give any response, but when NBC news asked for their comments, they say they will go back and discuss with the general employees respectively on the matter and give their response later. Meantime, the Independent Public Business Corporation, will soon put together the finer details, on addressing the partial privatization exercise. Comments are closed.
