The Government of Papua New Guinea has joined the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture family, to mourn the deaths of both late John Tahinao and Finerom Mara.
Expressing his condolences on behalf of the people of P-N-G to the governments of Fiji and Solomons and their families, Arts, Culture and Tourism Minister, Boka Kondra, said both deaths have caused heavy hearts. Kondra said, in keeping with custom, the National Government and his ministry will do all they can to support Fiji and Solomon Islands High Commissions, to repatriate the bodies to their respective countries. He said, Chairman of the Festival Organizing Committee, Dr. Jacob Simet, has been working together with the two High Commissions to notify and support their bereaved families during this time of loss. Both bodies remain at the funeral home, with that of the late Tahinao to be repatriated tomorrow, which Mr. Kondra will accompany to Honiara and return on Wednesday. He's expected to visit the Solomon Islands 'Haus Krai'or Wake tonight, at the P-N-G Education Institute where they are being accommodated, to show support and respect. Meantime, stalls belonging to the Solomon Islands and Fijian contingents at the Festival Village, were empty today. Comments are closed.
