THE Education Department has confirmed that there is currently a team of Asians
engaged by the department through its school survey task force committee to carry out finger prints of students in NCD schools for the purposes of tuition fee free education. Last week the team were attacked by parents of students attending a school at Six Mile after being accused of taking their children’s fingerprints and branding their hands to be part of the Biblical prophecy of the 666. A senior official from the Education Department said there should have been an advance (media) statement before the survey task force moves into schools but that did not happen resulting in the misinformation and confusion. He also stated that even in the Education Department there is no communication from the top management down and even staff are confused over information that needs to get out to public. The incident last week began when the team went to the school and took some finger prints of students. However, children who had been fingerprinted went home and on informing their parents about their experience caused a major uproar. Parents supported by bystanders then mobilised and marched to the school to investigate what the issue was all about. This was when the team was accused of taking part in the biblical prophecy of the 666. Acting NCD Metropolitan Commander NDranou Perou said the school called the police who rescued the team and took them to the Six Mile Police Station. The angry parents and members of the public marched to the station and started hurling missiles at it. This forced his men to retaliate by firing shots into the air to disperse the crowd. Mr Perou expressed disappointment on the part of the parents and said they should have sought advice from the schools administration before creating this confrontation that turned very nasty.
