An investigation team will be sent to Western Province to investigate concerns raised by teachers over unclaimed leave fares and other entitlements.
Education Minister Nick Kuman said this, when assuring teachers that they still be paid all their outstanding claims. Mr Kuman said the issue of teachers leave fares has been resolved but it's only one or two provinces that continues to raise the issue. He said this goes to show that it is a management issue and provincial authorities should be held accountable for their actions. Education Secretary Dr Michael Tapo made similar remarks. Dr Tapo said an investigation will be underway in those respective provinces to resolve the matter once and for all. Meanwhile, the National Department of Education is yet to respond to queries by local contractors in Port Moresby regarding their outstanding claims. Education Minister Nick Kuman said they are still waiting for the government to release a report to help them identify genuine claims. Mr Kuman said an investigation is also underway to see whether or not monies meant for these arrangements have been properly utilized. NBC News
