THE Department of Lands and Physical Planning will implement a pilot project that will involve the collection of rental fees from all state land in the National Capital District.
This was revealed in a press conference yesterday by the department Secretary Romilly Kila Pat. Mr Kila Pat told the media that the pilot project will be trialled in Port Moresby with funding from the department of finance making it possible. He said that the project will include officers from lands itself and finance who will collect outstanding state land rental fees from properties within Port Moresby. Mr Kila Pat said the exercise will be carried out throughout the country with the rental bills owed to the state standing at K200 million. He said that the two main things that the department will be looking at is the outstanding rental bills and the improvement of the land that is occupied. Mr Kila Pat made it clear that these two important aspects must be complied with when the officers pay a visit to the properties next month. He said that failure to adhere will see the land title forfeited back to the state. Meanwhile he also told the conference that the department has terminated staff that have not been performing or have been engaging in activities that do not serve the interest of the department. He said that those that have been told to leave have compromised their position and hence have given the department a bad image in the past. Mr Kila Pat also urged telikom to quickly address the issues of internet and the computer system in the office, the department is currrently doing things manually. Comments are closed.
