Defence Minister Fabian Pok says, all military establishments within Port Moresby city will be relocated and the vacant land put under a Defence Force company, to make money by putting it on lease or rent.
Minister Pok made specific indication to the Defence Headquarters Murray Barracks and the Lancron Naval base, as being considered for relocation. Without giving any indication of where these establishments will be moved to, Minister Pok told a media conference in Port Moresby, that money is already available for this to take place. "We Soon gonna relocate our wharf. "There is also money made available to buy land to relocate Murray Barracks. "So all these issues will be taken to consideration this year. "I have now asked a surveying company to survey these boundaries and all defence force institutions, barracks within Port Moresby will now be put under a defence company, so that rumours of land grabbing and all this things will be put into a stop. "Once the company has already surveyed the boundaries then they will now go hard and get the title on be half of the new defence company that we have set up, so that the land will now be owned by defence force, and the defence can rent it or do whatever they want to do after we move out of these areas," Minister Pok said.
