The Prime Minister Peter O’Neil, has criticised at the Opposition Leader for his ongoing attempts to use student issues for political gain. “The Opposition Leader has blood on his hands and he should hang his head in shame,” Prime Minister O’Neill said. “The nation of Papua New Guinea is not Kandep, and he has to take a totally different attitude when dealing with national issues. “An innocent student is dead following a vicious attack on the weekend, and of course a number of students were previously injured in Port Moresby. “We all recognise that there has been interference in these issues from Members of Parliament. “We know that the Opposition has been stirring unrest, has been involved in providing resources to protestors and was even writing material for the protestors as they prepared their petition. “The leader of the Opposition and his cronies who have been stirring up the students, and misleading them with false ideas, are a disgrace to this nation. “When investigations are undertaken into people from outside the universities who were involved in inciting the students, I think we will not be surprised to find the Opposition to be heavily involved.” The Prime Minister said the current Opposition group is the most selfish and destructive in the nation’s history, and this was undermining the economy and image of the nation. “Every democracy needs a strong opposition to debate the issues of the day and help strengthen the policy development process. “But all we see from Mr Polye is political games, misinformation and backroom murky activities such as misleading student groups. “Our nation expects more from the Opposition, not loud-mouthed politics and backroom deals. “It is time for the Opposition to stop playing games and be serious about this country before it calls itself an alternate government. “The Opposition must stay out of student issues so that these issues can be resolved and our children can finish the school year.”
