People in West Sepik province are defying warnings by PNG security forces, and are still travelling between the waters of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
Defence Force authorities, last week warned nationals, including locals from the province not to take any risk, as a shoot-out between West Papuan rebels and Indonesia army continues at the northern border. All Papua New Guineans were strongly cautioned not to travel by boat to Jayapura in Indonesia's Papua province, until the current situation is under control. However, NBC News in Vanimo is informed, people from the province and others are defying these national security warnings, and are still traveling between these countries on motorize and dinghies.
