Papua New Guinea welcomes the Sustainable Development Goals, pledging its commitment to achieving better results, after setting in place necessary foundation using the combined lessons learned from the Millennium Development Goals and the past 40 years as a country with economic opportunities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Inter Government Relations Minister Leo Dion, said this when speaking at the United Nations General Assembly Post 2015Summit for the Adoption of the Post 2015 Development Agenda, in New York last week. Mr. Dion says, PNG welcomes the adoption of the post 2015 SDG's and acknowledges the collective effort of all stakekholders to chart this transformative universal roadmap which will see the 2030 agenda leaves no one behind. He said PNG urges a people-centered and transformative post 2015 development agenda that must be nationally owned and driven and supported by global partnerships to be successful. Mr. Dion adds that PNG has invested heavily in the achievement of the MDG's through direct government interventions and enabling national policies and plans such as free basic health care, national population, water, sanitation and hygiene policies and will soon develop an enegery policy as well.
