Prime Minister Peter O’Neill denied the questions from former Treasury Minister Don Polye who claimed that there are unbudgeted project commitments outside of the 2014 Budget appropriation to a K9billion.
Polye also claimed that from the records announced mentioned so far in addition to the K1.3 billion budget deficit this year. O’Neil in response said that I really don’t know where the K9 billion is coming from. “There is nothing such as K9 billion commitments to projects, of course, there are discussions about projects into the future like Port Moresby airport, Highlands Highway which are are key infrastructures that nation needs and as a government we are entitled to discuss how we can resolve these issues,” PM O’Neill said. He said these are not commitments being commitment by the Parliament, and we don’t a government outside the appropriations of Parliament. “In terms of Budget Deficit, when the former treasurer tabled the Budget, we planned for a deficit this year, we planned for a deficit next year and we will come to a balanced budget in 2017, PM O’Neill said as he answered to Polye’s questions during the parliament session. PM O’Neill stated that this is just a mischievous question by the former Treasurer and I want to inform this Honorable House that there is nothing such as K9 billion commitments on unfunded or unplanned projects in the country.
