The United States President Barack Obama has sent his congratulatory message to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and the people of Papua New Guinea on its 40 Independence Anniversary.
Mr Obama in a statement said that bilateral relationship with the US continued to grow. "On behalf of the American people, I wish you and the people of Papua New Guinea a happy Independence Day. In its 40 years of independence, Papua New Guinea has made incredible strides towards a more prosperous future. Our relationship continues to grow, and the United States and PNG cooperate on a range of critical issues. "Since its last Independence Day, PNG successfully hosted the XV Pacific Games in Port Moresby, a world-class event that burnished both local and international perceptions. Your chairmanship of the Pacific Islands Forum this year further demonstrates your leadership to advance important measures for the benefit of the region and the world.
