The Judiciary and the legal fraternity are mourning the sudden passing of Papua New Guinea's first female judge. Justice Catherine Davani passed away yesterday in a hospital in Brisbane Australia. Judge Davani has since been silently fighting a battle with breast cancer, together with her duties at the National and Supreme Courts. She had graduated from the Legal Training Institute in 1984, and was appointed a judge of the National and Supreme Courts in 2001, making her the first woman judge in PNG's history. Chief Justice, Sir Salamo Injia is expected to make a statement on the untimely passing of Justice Davani in the coming days.
