Counting for the Madang Open by-election is continuing.
Returning Officer, Adolf Duangha, says the progress has been good so far since Friday. He says the Provincial Election Steering Committee has met with candidates over the weekend, and resolved to do quality checks zone by zone, and not at the end of the primary count as is the normal practice. Duangha says although counting has been progressing at a rather slow pace than expected, the Electoral Commission anticipates to complete the exercise before the 20th December, which is when the writs will be returned to the Governor General. As at count 25 on Sunday, ousted M-P and former Police Minister, Nixon Philip Duban, continued to lead with 5 405 votes, followed by petitioner, Bryan Kramer, on second place with 1,059 votes. On third spot is former Goroka M-P, Thomson Haroqaveh with 690 votes, while running fourth is Peter Yama, with 685 votes. No new figures were posted yesterday, as officials were busy doing quality checks, on Zone One ballot papers, which is North Ambenob. Comments are closed.
