WORKERS in the rural areas will soon be able to access their pay slips through their mobile phones.
This is thanks to an initiative undertaken by Digicel PNG through a mobile application dubbed mobile money. Digicel PNG mobile money distribution manager Genevieve Daniels said: "Digicel mobile money turns one’s Digicel mobile phone into an electronic wallet, allowing subscribers to receive their salary payments, and instantaneously transfer money out to family and friends." Ms Daniels said mobile money is different from mobile banking as it is led by a mobile operator and is not attached to any commercial bank. "Mobile banking allows you access to your bank account through the use of your mobile phone but in the case of mobile money, it allows you to use Digicel’s network, allowing your mobile number to become your account number and your mobile phone to simply become your save card," Ms Daniels added. When commenting on the relevance of the product in assisting the payroll system, Ms Daniels said the product will be beneficial, especially for employees who reside in the rural areas. "How this product will assist workers in rural areas who aren’t able to have a printed pay slip is that Digicel is able to build an SMS application according to how the employer wants it," she explained. "This allows the employer to set out the staff’s pay slips and notifications on the amount that has gone into their account. Tax and NASFUND deductions can be sent directly to their mobile phones." Ms Daniels stated that based on the employer’s preferences and requirements, the SMS application is built and controlled by Digicel’s two trusted vendors. Related Post
