National Alliance insiders have revealed a split in the second largest party and major coalition partner in the O'Neil Government.
Insiders told NBC News, this is likely to affect the turn of events leading up to the October session. Speaking under conditions of anonymity, a source, says the split was evident when the 14-member party met recently to take a vote to either remain with the current coalition or move to the Opposition. The source says, three or four party members, which include East Sepik Governor, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, are not happy with the way things are run, and have opted to move from the coalition. The insider, adds that the dissatisfied faction may hand in their resignation and move across to the Opposition, if their opinion is not accepted by the rest of the National Alliance party members. The Opposition has also indicated that they are likely to table a motion on the Vote of No Confidence against Prime Minister Peter O'Neill in the October to November session, following the Supreme Court Decision, nullifying amendments to Section 145 and 142 of the Constitution, which require only 11 signatures to sign a motion and not 22 signatures.
