Minister Public Enterprise & State Investment and Leader of the United Resource Party, William Duma, MP, has called for the Leader of the Opposition to explain the hundreds of thousands of Kina in people’s money that has been lost due to his successive attempts at failed votes of no confidence. “How many hundreds of thousands of Kina has it cost to recall Parliament for these two sitting days for a vote that was always doomed to failure,” Mr Duma said. “The cost to the public runs into the hundreds of thousands of Kina, if not millions, and it is money wasted. “This is money that could have been better spent on hospitals and medicines, and on expanding police training or building new infrastructure. “The Opposition knows they will not even have 20 members support their vote, but they continue to waste the money of the nation. “I joined a coalition Government for this term on Parliament and we are seeing our mandated agenda through to the end of this term. “Governments are strong when they are stable and when members are loyal.” Minister Duma said the direct wastage of state money was one thing, while the damage to the reputation of the nation costs millions. “The ongoing baseless attacks by Don Polye on the economy and governance of this nation have taken their toll. “Since becoming Opposition Leader he has continued to talk down our economic development. “The fundamentals of our economy are strong. “Even when so many countries are facing downturns, our economy will grow by five per cent this year. “We are facing the toughest global climate in many years but Papua New Guinea is moving forward. “While most people around the world can see through this as sour politics, there are investors who would have believed what the Opposition said and decided not to invest in our country. “These are jobs that have been taken away from Papua New Guineans.” Minister Duma said he hopes that after the vote on Friday that higher standards would return to the way in which opposition politics is carried out in Papua New Guinea.
