Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investment Ben Micah has warned The National Newspaper to retract its front page report of today (Thursday 15-01015) or face the State of Emergency authority, as the report is misleading the public.
The daily reported that Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said the State of Emergency proclaimed by Minister Micah is illegal. The Minister in a statement this afternoon, said the report is completely out of context. Micah said the Prime Minister is the Chairman of the National Executive Council and the NEC approves this exercise. The minister explained, it would not have been gazetted if the NEC did not advise the Governor General to declare a proclamation and for its gazettal. The proclamation was signed by the Acting Governor General and Gazzetted on the 22nd of December last year. NBC News also obtained the copy of the gazzettal notice. Ben Micah briefly said the Emergency is touching some sensitive institutions and people and he is not surprise of the article in the National Newspaper. Chief Executive Officer John Tangit has also brush aside reports that him and Ben Micah have been summoned by the PrimE Minister on Tuesday. Tangit in a short phone conversation, said they were called by the Prime Minister to give brief on SOE. Meantime, Micah said that SOE will continue as there are positive signs and support from the people.
