Minister for State Enterprises and Public Investments, Ben Micah, and Opposition Leader Don Polye are among P-N-G Power electricity users with outstanding bills.
This is according to the list of defaulters published in the two daily newspapers today. Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia has also been named as one of the defaulters. NBC News could not get Mr Micah's personal comment. However, an officer close to the Minister said he was shocked to see his name appear, as he knows he does not owe PNG Power any money. The officer said, the Minister's office will verify the report with PNG Power. The officer has quoted Mr. Micah as saying, 'he's not above the law and will pay up if he has any outstanding bills. The Australian and Malaysian High Commissions as well as the United States Embassy in Port Moresby, are also in the list carried in seven full pages. Also named are Air Niugini, PNG Power itself, PNG Harbours Board, Curtain Brothers, Bank of Papua New Guinea, the defunct PNG Banking Corporation, Institute of National Affairs and the University of Papua New Guinea among others. The list also carries names of defaulters who have already died or companies that have gone defunct.. The amount of money owed by each defaulter, has not been disclosed. By Toa Sime : NBC
