TARI MP James Marape praised Kandep MP and Finance Minister Don Polye for his unselfishness.
Marape told a large crowd at Kandep station that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill had offered the post to Polye’s Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party after last year’s general election. Polye opted to give it to deputy party leader Leo Dion. “If Don Polye was a selfish man, he today would be deputy Prime Minister,” Marape said. “Polye agreed for Peter O’Neill to be Prime Minister and gave the deputy prime minister position to a man from the coast.” Marape, who was representing O’Neill at the celebrations to mark Polye’s appointment as chairman of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, welcomed six Cabinet ministers and other MPs who accompanied Polye to Kandep. “The jobs of prime minister and deputy prime minister may belong to someone else, but the man who cuts and shares the pig (budget) is Don Polye,” he said. Marape said if not for Polye, the Kandep people would continue to be forgotten. “If not for Don Polye, you would still be in your swamps looking for fish,” he said. “Now you see the road from Mendi, which will go on to Tari and Laiagam. “Kandep is in the middle of Mendi, Laiagam, Tari, Porgera, Wapenamenda and Wabag. You are ready to run. You have the leadership which has been recognised by the world and Papua New Guinea.” PNG Facts / The National Comments are closed.
