A man died instantly after he was attacked by six men who chopped off his left arm while he was asleep at his home in Manus Province on Saturday.
The 25-year-old victim also received multiple knife wounds and died from loss of blood. This was the only major incident reported to police during the long Christmas weekend. Acting Manus Provincial Police Commander David Yapu said the victim, identified as Nicolas Morris, was asleep with his wife in their home at Lowa Village when he was attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning by six men who were believed to have been under the influence of home-brew and illicit spirit. He said the suspects had planned to confront the victim after he had gone to one of the suspects’ house and destroyed properties. Senior Inspector Yapu said the men were armed with bush knives, axes and fishing spears. The men broke into the victim’s house and attacked him. The victim’s wife managed to escape. The killing was immediately reported to police in the province and a police team was sent to Lowa Village to investigate and arrest the suspects. Mr Yapu said police were able to apprehend three suspects aged between 16 and 21 who are now in custody while the three other suspects allegedly involved in the killing are still at large. The acting PPC appealed to leaders at Lowa to cooperate to bring in the three suspects. The body is at the Lorengau Hospital awaiting a post-mortem. Apart from this major incident, Manus Province was relatively quiet during the long weekend. PNGfacts/PostCourier Comments are closed.
