The Missionary Aviation Services or M-A-F, will re-develop about 50 rundown rural airstrips in the country.
This was made possible through a public-private partnership arrangement. The Government has made available 60-million Kina to maintain all rundown airstrips serviced by third level airlines. The funds will be coordinated by an already established Rural Airstrips Authority. National Planing and Implementation Minister Charles Abel says this will be rolled out through partnerships with existing and reputable third level airlines. Mr Abel acknowledged the Missionary Aviation Fellowship as one of those notable small operators who could meaningfully partner with the government, providing aviation services to most remote places in the country. Minister Abel says MAF would arrange with landowners to cut grass and set up wind socks and cones. He says MAF will also use some of the money to maintain their aircraft but the most important thing is to support them to assist the government complete some of these vital developments.
